President's 2008-2009 Action Plan
The Network’s president, Flor María Ríos, deputy of the National Assembly of Venezuela, presented her action plan during the Executive committee meeting held on January 24, 2009 in Calafate (Santa Cruz) Argentina. The adopted action plan sets out thematic directions for the Network and comprises three separate parts, one for each of the priorities identified by the President.
1. Education and public awareness campaign on violence against women
- Systematic inclusion of an item regarding violence against women on the agenda of the Network’s statutory meetings
- Organization of a special event at the National Assembly of Venezuela on the occasion of International Women’s Day in March 2009
- Designation of a rapporteur on the subject of violence against women
- Sharing of information among the members of the Network
- Addition of a page entitled “Ending violence against women” under “Work themes” on the Network’s website, and dissemination of information
2. Promotion of the Network throughout the
Americas
- Recruitment of new members throughout the
Americas
by means of missions promoting the Network and its activities
- Distribution of promotional material during missions of the President
- Preparation and distribution to the local media of press releases on the activities of both the Network and the President
- Participation in the activities of other regional organizations
3. Development of and follow up on the work themes identified at the 7th Annual Meeting
- Changes in Women’s Participation in Politics 1999-2009: Situation and Outlook
- The Impact of the Bolivarian Alternative for the
Americas
(ALBA) on Women
- Human Trafficking in the
Americas
- The Implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and its Optional Protocol in the
Americas
